Sterile label basics

What are sterile labels?

Sterile labels are specialized identification labels that have been sterilized and packaged to maintain their sterile condition until the package is opened for use in a sterile or aseptic workflow. They are used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology, sterile compounding, and other contamination-sensitive applications.

Unlike standard labels, sterile labels must address reliable identification alongside sterile supply, packaging, transfer, printing, and handling. Sterile supply alone does not establish cleanroom compatibility or resistance to additional sterilization.

How CleanMark helps: We offer gamma-sterilized labels in paper-based and cleanroom-compatible constructions, configured around your equipment and application requirements.

How we help

Common starting points for sterile label projects.

Tell us what you’re working toward. You don’t need to know the material or finished specification.

Introduce a sterile requirement

A new aseptic process or quality requirement. We help define the label, packaging, and documentation needed for evaluation.

Keep existing equipment

Need sterile supply without replacing your printer or applicator? We review equipment and labeling sequence together.

Resolve a label or handling problem

Adhesion, readability, packaging, or transfer concerns. We investigate what needs to change.

Improve supply or qualification

Need a clearer specification, consistent quality, or a new supplier? We establish an evaluation path.

Sterile label selection guide

What does your sterile label need to do?

Consider these requirements. You can add technical details to your request when you have them.

Arrive sterile and ready for your process

Consider sterilization, packaging, opening, and controlled transfer.

Meet your material restrictions

Decide whether paper is permitted or cleanroom-compatible components are required.

Fit your printing and labeling equipment

Review when labels are printed and whether existing printers and applicators must be retained.

Remain attached and readable

Account for surfaces, handling, cleaning, storage, and further sterilization if applicable.

Available formats

Supplied to fit the way you work.

Size, configuration, and packaging are selected for your equipment and process. You don’t need to choose a format before contacting us.

A sterile compounding application

A new sterile requirement. An existing labeling line.

The challenge

A compounding organization needed sterile continuous-roll labels for IV bags and syringes while retaining its existing printers and applicators.

What we reviewed

We brought label construction, printing equipment, packaging, and gamma sterilization into one review.

How we helped

We helped the team navigate the new requirement and develop a label tailored to its application while retaining its familiar labeling process.

We start with the process you use today, then work through what the label needs to deliver.

How it works

From first question to consistent supply.

01 / DEFINE

A recommended starting point.

Share what you know. An engineer replies within one business day to clarify your application, identify gaps, and recommend a construction when enough information is available.

02 / EVALUATE

Samples and supporting data.

Test in your process. Evaluate samples for adhesion, readability, scanning, and clean removal where needed through your actual cleaning, storage, and handling. We provide data sheets to support your qualification.

03 / PRODUCE

An agreed specification and supply plan.

Confirm pricing, dimensions, quantity, configuration, packaging, and lead time before production. We deliver on time, in full, and in spec.

04 / SUPPORT

Support for your approved specification.

We maintain your approved specification, order after order. If your surfaces, cleaners, printers, or application equipment change, we review the label with you.

Before you choose

Questions about sterile labels.

How are CleanMark sterile labels sterilized?

CleanMark’s sterile-label offering uses gamma sterilization. Tell us what records your quality team requires so we can confirm available documentation.

Do sterile labels also meet cleanroom requirements?

Not automatically. Materials, liners, cores, and packaging must be selected for the controlled environment in addition to sterile supply.

Can we keep our printers and applicators?

We’ll review the equipment and sequence of printing, sterilization, transfer, and application before recommending a configuration.

Can labels be supplied in smaller packs?

We can review pack quantities based on how many labels your team needs each time a package is opened.

Can we evaluate samples first?

Samples can be part of the recommendation process, with evaluation matched to the intended construction and application.

Can labels withstand further sterilization?

That depends on the construction and process. Share the method and conditions so performance can be evaluated.

Are these sterilization indicator labels?

Not necessarily. Sterile supply and visual indication of process exposure are different requirements. Indicator color change alone does not confirm sterility.
